About mi.
Small batch pottery from the heart of British Columbia
Hi, my name is Inês, and I’m behind mi. handmade ceramics.
Technically I actually have two first names (Maria Inês, hence “mi”) which is something very common in my home country, Portugal. I was born and raised in Lisbon, and back in elementary school my favourite school activity was playing around with clay.
I later on became an engineer and ended up travelling to Vancouver for a temporary work assignment. I slowly fell in love with the place - they call it Beautiful British Columbia for a reason - and not so slowly fell in love with an amazing Canadian man, which ultimately made my decision of staying a much easier one.
Luckily enough I got reunited with clay on this side of the world, so here I am, 20 years later, going back to the mud. This is my hobby and my passion, and I’m forever thankful and humbled by the process.
I make pottery out of my home studio in Nelson, and hand build every piece (instead of using a potter’s wheel), which means I get to spend a very long time with each and every item that I make. Everything is made with intention and love, and I honestly hope that you get to enjoy the finalized pieces at least as much as I enjoyed making them - from my hands to yours.
